Static IP
Every machine connected to UTSA's network has a unique identifying number called an IP address. The network or internet uses assigned IP's to connect computers, data servers, web site servers etc.
Typically IP addresses are assigned dynamically to client computers. This happens automatically when you turn your computer on and log into the UTSA network.
On occasion, a UTSA department or UTSA college might want to request a static IP address for a server computer. A static IP address is permanent and can only be used by the machine its requested for. No other computers on UTSA's network will be assigned that permanent IP.
REQUESTING a static IP is NOT required to use UTSA's network.
Static IP's are useful only if you plan to host services on a server machine (web sites, data centers etc.).
Web site Service
Please consider UTSA's Web and Multimedia Services Office for all of your web site design applications.
