File Storage Solution for Faculty Staff and Students
How Does This Affect Me?
Faculty and Staff
- When implemented, users will have access to virtually unlimited storage both through two new drive letters (U: and T:) as well as via the Web.
-
The new drive letters will work almost exactly like the I: Drive does now.
-
Users will be asked to transfer their personal directory on the I: Drive to their new U: Drive.
-
After implementation, the I: Drive will not be available.
-
OIT will move all of the departmental Common folders to the new T: Drive. We will notify each department before we move the folders.
-
Besides having easy access to your files anywhere you have an Internet connection, you will never be locked out of your folders due to exceeding a space limitation!
-
If you use the website to access your storage, you can share your files with any other UTSA staff, faculty member or student.
Students
-
Students will have access to virtually unlimited storage both through a website and at the student computing labs (via a drive letter in My Computer).
-
The new website will allow students to access their files anywhere they have Internet access - 24/7, on- and off-campus. No need to e-mail files to yourself or to carry around CDs or flash drives.
-
Students will be able to securely share their files collaboratively with any other UTSA student, staff or faculty member.
Timeline
September 1, 2010
- Beta testing of the file storage solution begins.
Changes That Will Affect the UTSA Community
UTSA faculty and staff will need to transfer files from their personal folder on the I: Drive to the new file storage location before the I: Drive is decommissioned.
Instructions on how to move files from your personal folder will be included in communications sent via e-mail.
