University-wide Student Printing System
How Does This Affect Me?
Students
-
The new print process works by having students send their documents to a central print queue. The print job can then be released (printed) at various locations on campus.
-
In addition to the student computing labs, students will now be able to release their print job at a Print Spot location, in almost every building on campus. Print Spot locations - Main Campus: MS, UC I, UC II, BSS, MB, JPL (cafeteria), HSS, SB, BSE, BB. Downtown: BV, FS, MNT, and DB.
-
Each semester all students get a 200 page allotment at no charge. After that allotment is used, students will now pay 6 cents per b/w page (formerly 8 cents per b/w page).
Now, you won’t have to visit the student labs to print.
Print from anywhere to any one of 19 new locations on campus!
Timeline
October 2010
Print Spot print stations will be up and available at all locations in October 2010.
November 2010
Students can now send their documents from a home (or other off-campus computer) to the Print Spot queue! This new functionality will require students to re-install the Print Spot software.
Changes That Will Affect the UTSA Community
-
If using laptop to send print job: Before using the new printing system for the first time, students will need to download printer drivers from the printing Web page (available September 2010). Once the drivers are installed, printing is easy.
-
If using student computing lab computer to send print job: You will send the "job" to print as normal and then release your print job at any of the Print Spot locations inside or outside the student computing labs.
Print Spot printers will require you to log in before you can release your print job. You may either swipe your UTSACard or enter your myUTSA ID (abc123) and password to log in.
When you are ready to print a document, in your application (like Microsoft Word) you will simply select Print Spot as the printer. Then, go to any of the 19 Print Spot locations on campus and release the document to that printer.
