Upgrading the AirRowdy Wireless Network
How Does This Affect Me?
Faculty and Staff
-
Beginning August 19, 2010, staff and faculty will connect to AirRowdy with the new "AirRowdy_Fac_Staff" SSID.
-
Staff and faculty will no longer need to use VPN on AirRowdy to connect securely to network resources.
-
This new connection will allow faculty and staff to connect using a very secure encrypted connection.
-
Once faculty and staff have configured their laptops with the new SSID, they will no longer need to log in order to connect to AirRowdy.
Students
-
Beginning August 19, 2010, students will connect to AirRowdy with a new SSID. The SSID name is "AirRowdy_Student."
Guests of the University
-
Beginning August 19, 2010, guests of the University will connect to AirRowdy with a new SSID. The SSID name is "AirRowdy_Guest."
-
Guests need only fill out a simple online login form in order to get access to the wireless network.
-
Guest wireless network access is limited only to Web-based applications.
Most UTSA Internet services are not accessible to guest wireless network users, except for access to www.utsa.edu. (Note: Some links on utsa.edu may refer to other UTSA Web services that are not available via AirRowdy.)
Timeline
August 19, 2010

Changes That Will Affect the UTSA Community
Beginning August 19, 2010, UTSA faculty/staff, students and guests will be required to choose the appropriate SSID (wireless network). Faculty, staff and students will log in by entering their myUTSA ID (abc123) and password.

- UTSA faculty and staff are required to use "AirRowdy_Fac_Staff" SSID.

The current wireless network (AirRowdy_N) will only be available until December 31, 2010 at which point it will be taken offline in favor of the three new AirRowdy networks.
Please become familiar with your network configuration settings on your wireless device before attempting to connect to the UTSA wireless network.
