Standard Applications Installed on Microsoft Windows Computers

When a UTSA staff and faculty member purhases an office computer (Microsoft Windows OS) from the standard computer model list, it will come with the following applications already installed:

Flash player allows websites to display feature-rich content through your browser.

Adobe Reader

Reader allows the opening, viewing, and printing of Acrobat .PDF files.

Adobe Shockwave

Apple’s iTunes store.  Browse content with the iTune store, using the application’s built in browser; listen to music and sync with your mobile device.

Apple QuickTime Player

Apple’s media player.  Watch HD content, and internet video through a standalone player, or through your browser’s enabled plug-in.

CDBurnerXP

With an easy to use interface, CDBurnerXP allows anyone to burn CDs and DVDs, as well as create and burn .ISO files to optical media.

Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client / Links

Quick access to the UTSA Virtual Private Network allows you to connect and access network resources wherever you go.

CutePDF Writer

Save a document as a .PDF, so that others can use Adobe Reader to open and read the file.  The software is located as a virtual printer.  Simply choose it when printing to save as a .PDF.

Java

Created for internet application developers, the Java runtime allows for Java-created applications and Java sites to run.

Microsoft Forefront AntiVirus

Microsoft’s antivirus solution, Forefront, will scan your computer and ensure no viruses get through.  It will update from the UTSA servers or (if you are offline with a laptop) directly from Microsoft.

Microsoft Office 2007 Suite

Microsoft’s Office Suite includes: Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Access

Microsoft Windows Media Player / Center

Feature-rich and HD supported, Microsoft’s Media Player and Media Center offer an enjoyable media experience, playing DVDs to CDs to miscellaneous media files.

Mozilla Firefox

An alternative browser, Mozilla Firefox is designed to welcome plug-ins and add-ons, making the browser very customizable.

Realplayer SP

With more compatibility, quicker access, and internal web browsing capabilities,  SP is the most versatile Realplayer yet.

SilverLight

A web browser plug-in (similar to Adobe Flash), SilverLight is capable of HD streaming playback and is fully supported by Microsoft.

UTSA My PC Toolbar

Quick access to your system’s utilities, employee online tools, and tech support links, the My PC Toolbar from OITSS provides shortcuts to the most common requests, to the most used resources.

VLC Player

An alternative media player, VLC has established itself as a frontrunner video player, that can be used to play almost all media types as well as DVDs and CDs.

Windows OS integrated software

Software such as Internet Explorer, Paint, Sound Recorder, and Notepad as well as new Windows 7 tools: Sticky Notes and Snipping Tool.
