Share this Story(Jan. 30, 2012) -- Members of the student organization Be A Responsible Roadrunner (BARR) closed the fall semester with an off-campus luncheon. The students talked about the group’s memorable moments for the semester and honored two members for their achievements.
R.J. Rangel was awarded Outstanding Consultant for his contributions to the organization for the fall semester. He is a junior history major from Edinburg, Texas.
The Outstanding Consultant models the qualities of an excellent peer educator including being a role model, an outstanding facilitator of student learning and an effective link connecting BARR with other departments, organizations and community groups.
The Outstanding Consultant has made significant contributions to the organization, shows a high level of leadership in the organization. The consultant has demonstrated a record of improvement, progressed throughout membership and is a self-starter with a confident attitude. The consultant often serves above and beyond the call of duty. She or he strives for positive interactions with peers, finds ways to take the organization to the next level and takes the extra step to learn more about the organization, community, and relevant topic material and skills for the benefit of the team.
Sarah Gallup was awarded the Rising Star for her contributions to the organization for the fall semester. She is a sophomore psychology major from The Woodlands, Texas.
The Rising Star is a new member of the organization who has demonstrated dedication and excitement about BARR. The student has made significant contributions to the organization, shows a novice or higher level of leadership in the organization and the beginning stages of an excellent peer educator. The member has demonstrated a record of improvement, progressed throughout membership and is a self-starter with a confident attitude.
The Rising Star may serve above and beyond the call of duty. She or he strives for positive interactions with peers, finds ways to take the organization to the next level and takes the extra step to learn more about the organization, community and relevant topic material and skills for the benefit of the team.

Be A Responsible Roadrunner is a student organization supported by the UTSA Office of Student Activities. The organization is made up of student leaders dedicated to purposeful, diverse and educational programming. BARR supports the rights of all students to make their own choices regarding behaviors that affect their health and encourages students to educate themselves about those issues. BARR encourages students to consider a wide range of healthier behaviors that reduce or eliminate the risk of negative outcomes.
