UTSA symposium Feb. 23 to explore successful high-stakes working relationships
Share this Story(Feb. 20, 2012) --The UTSA College of Education and Human Development will host a free symposium, "School Board-Superintendent Interpersonal Relations," from 3 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23 in the Guenther Pavilion at the Briscoe Western Art Museum, 210 W. Market St., San Antonio, Texas, 78205. The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required. Although based in school board interpersonal relations, the event is applicable to other business community leaders managing high-stakes relationships.
Noted panelists from the education and business communities will discuss why some high-profile business relationships are successful, while some leaders can't seem to work together effectively to achieve their goals. With topics such as "When Relationships Go Bad: Stories from the Field" and "Crisis Management and the Media," panelists also will relate their personal experiences and best practices.
The featured speakers will include Ed Whitacre, former chairman and CEO of AT&T and General Motors; John Graham, chairman of the board, Fleishman-Hillard International Communications; and Cathy Mincberg, president and CEO of The Center for the Reform of School Systems and former Harlandale ISD school board trustee.
Few relationships are more challenging than interpersonal relationships between a school superintendent and his or her school board trustees. Together, these partners must manage extraordinarily high-stake issues such as public resources and the safety and education of children.
