Bachelor of Science Degree in Health

This program provides students with the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Health for students interested in careers in community and public health and school health (teacher certification). All degree core, designated electives, and support work must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.

Academic advising for students seeking the degree is available in the College of Education and Human Development Advising and Certification Center.

The minimum number of semester credit hours for this degree, including the Core Curriculum requirements, is 120, at least 45 of which must be at the upper-division level.

Core Curriculum requirements: Students seeking the Bachelor of Science degree in Health, regardless of the area of specialization they choose, must fulfill University Core Curriculum requirements. The courses listed in the table below satisfy both degree requirements and Core Curriculum requirements. For a complete listing of courses that satisfy the Core Curriculum requirements see pages 5-9 of this catalog.

BIO 1404 Biosciences I (required), and any additional three hours listed under the Level Two section in the list of core courses will satisfy this core requirement.

Humanities & Visual and Performing Arts

Literature (3 semester credit hours)
Any three hours listed under this section in the list of core courses will satisfy this core requirement.

The Arts (3 semester credit hours)
Any three hours listed under this section in the list of core courses will satisfy this core requirement.

Social and Behavioral Sciences

United States History and Diversity (6 semester credit hours)
Any six hours listed under this section in the list of core courses will satisfy this core requirement.

Political Science (6 semester credit hours)
POL 1013 Introduction to American Politics, plus three additional hours listed under this section in the list of core courses will satisfy this core requirement.

Social and Behavioral Science (3 semester credit hours)
Any three hours listed under this section in the list of core courses will satisfy this core requirement.

Economics (3 semester credit hours)
Any three hours listed under this section in the list of core courses will satisfy this core requirement.

World Society and Issues

(3 semester credit hours)
Any three hours listed under this section in the list of core courses will satisfy this core requirement.

    All the courses listed for the Specialization in School Health are required for teacher certification in school health. Only courses marked with an asterisk are restricted and require an advisor code and acceptance into the Teacher Certification Program.
